Abiding In Christ
Abiding in Christ is to put our human self back where it
belongs, in Christ; this is the only way we can be fruitful.
Jesus is the true Vine. He is the genuine vine, not
a false, counterfeit vine. In fact, He is opposed to the counterfeit, the sham,
the deceitful, the pretender.
God is the Vinedresser. He is the One who carefully planted
the Vine (Christ) and waters and feeds the Vine. He is the One who cares for,
looks after, and watches over the Vine and the branches. He is the One who
prunes and purges, cleans and protects the Vine and its branches.
Mankind is the branches. As branches, we are all judged
based on how we relate to the True Vine. We are...
• either
unfruitful (John
15:2) or fruitful branches of the true Vine (John
15:2-3).
• either
unattached (John
15:4-6) or attached branches of the true Vine (John
15:7-8).
Existence of Creation
God is love. Christ is the power of God. Christ is all and
in all. The only reason for the existence of the entire creation is to contain
the creator! The creation is not to be something, but it is to contain someone.
Christ. And we are to be abiding in Christ.
Distortion of Humanity
There is an immense distortion of humanity. It's the
distortion of ego - of the self. Though we feel self to be important, the human
self is really very unimportant. There is only one Self in the universe that is
really important. There is only one person in the universe, who said, “I Am."
The whole creation existed because Spirit must have a body
in which to manifest Himself. We are that body and we are to be abiding in
Christ the Spirit.
Man’s Free Will
However, man has been given free choice and our problem is
we say to God, “Thank you very much, but I don’t want You living in me and
ruling my life.” We choose to make SELF god and not GOD. We just naturally want
to run our own lives. That is our whole trouble.
There isn't a single problem in humanity except our
self-reactions - not one.
The Devil is no trouble. He was dealt with 2000 years ago.
Our neighbor is not our trouble.
Circumstances are not our trouble.
The only trouble is our reaction.
Distorted self, self out of gear, is our problem.
Key to Life
Once we know how to handle the human self and put it back
where it belongs, we've found the key to life. The key to life is abiding in
Christ.
Where we belong is abiding in Christ. We are to be one with
Him. The mystery of the universe is unison: how two can be one and yet remain
two.
Jesus in illustration of the vine and the branches show
this oneness, this unison.
Jesus says to the branch you must “abide in the vine." The Vine
is the life and feeds life to the branch, yet the branch does things. It uses
the sap and produces leaf and flower and fruit.
We Claim Our Activity As Our Own
As the branch, we tend to like producing the flower or
Fruit. We tend to think that the flower with the fruit came from us.
But our activity of producing the flower and fruit is
secondary to our receptive. The flower or the fruit is the outcome of our
receptive. No receptivity of sap from the vine, no fruit.
As the branch, we are one with the vine and we are one with
many other branches that make up the whole body.
Part of a Vital Organism
We are a part of a vital organism, which is and ascended,
glorious, perfect Christ - the eternal Christ.
We are a part of Him. Yet we remain ourselves. This is
abiding in Christ.
Unison
In this relationship, we are all dependent. Exactly as the
body is dependent on the head, and the head governs the body, so we forever
remain the dependent member of the unison.
In the unison is never safe until we know that.
So, until you have a few good knocks on the head and
discover your conceited self, you're not safe to know the unison.
Basically, every one of us has regarded life as something
we must live, although we are glad to have the help and grace of God to assist
us. Even though we are redeemed people, without realizing our error, we rely
mainly on our self-activity.
Receptivity
Our basic function is the recognition of Christ in us. Our
receptivity.
We don't have to continually allow him into our life,
because we have already received him. But we must recognize him and know He is
the functioning one. It is Christ living His life in me.
It is Christ who inspires, imparts faith, thinks the
thought, expresses His compassion and puts our bodies into action. That is, if
we recognize Him and allow Him to do these things.
Only when we recognize our place of receptivity will Christ
be able to send us to work.
