Our Greatest Gift.

Forgiveness From God

    1. Conditions For Forgiveness From God

a.   Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV)  "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you   do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

b.   Luke 3:3 (NKJV)  And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,

c.    Luke 17:3-4 (NKJV)  Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 4And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, 'I repent,' you shall forgive him."

    1. Meaning Of Forgiveness from God

a.   Matthew 26:28 (NKJV)  For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

b.   Acts 2:38 (NKJV)  Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission [forgiveness] of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

c.    Ephes. 1:7 (NKJV)  In Him we have redemption [forgiveness] through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

    1. How One Receives Forgiveness From God

a.   We Receive Forgiveness From God By believing in Christ -  Acts 10:43 (NKJV)  To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins."

b.   We Receive Forgiveness From God By coming and believing - Mark 2:3-4 (NKJV)  Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.

c.    We Receive Forgiveness From God By confessing our sins - 1 John 1:9 (NKJV)  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

d.   We Receive Forgiveness From God By forgiving others -

Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV)  "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Mark 11:25-26 (NKJV)  "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.26But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."

Luke 11:25-26 (NKJV)  And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.26Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first."

1 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)  not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

e.   We Receive Forgiveness From God By God’s grace and love –

Luke 7:42 (NKJV)  And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?"

Romans 4:7-8 (NKJV)  "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,

And whose sins are covered;

8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin."

Ephes. 2:1-10 (NKJV)  And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,2in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,3among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,5even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),6and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,9not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ephes. 4:32 (NKJV)  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

Col. 2:13 (NKJV)  And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

Titus 3:3-7 (NKJV)  For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.4But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,5not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,6whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,7that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

f.     We Receive Forgiveness From God By repentance

Acts 2:38 (NKJV)  Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:22 (NKJV)  Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

g.   We Receive Forgiveness From God Through Christ

Matthew 9:2 (NKJV)  Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."

Mark 2:8-11 (NKJV)  But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?9Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? 10But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic, 11I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."

Mark 3:28 (NKJV)  "Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter;

Acts 5:31 (NKJV)  Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 13:38 (NKJV)  Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins;

Ephes. 1:7 (NKJV)  In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

1 John 1:9 (NKJV)  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 2:1-2 (NKJV)  My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.2And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

h.   We Receive Forgiveness From God Through Christ’s blood

Luke 11:2-4 (NKJV)  So He said to them, "When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

3Give us day by day our daily bread.

4And forgive us our sins,

For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one."

James 5:14-15 (NKJV)  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.15And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

i.      We Receive Forgiveness From God Through redemption

Ephes. 1:7 (NKJV)  In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Col. 1:14 (NKJV)  in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 9:12-15 (NKJV)  Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.13For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

    1. What God Does With Our Sin

a.   All our trespasses are forgiven

Col. 2:13 (NKJV)  And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

Psalm 103:3 (NKJV)  Who forgives all your iniquities,Who heals all your diseases,

b.   God removes our transgressions and remembers them no more

Psalm 103:12 (NKJV)  As far as the east is from the west,

So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Jeremiah 31:34 (NKJV)  No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."
