not forgive if we do not forgive

on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may
inherit a blessing.

times, but up to seventy times seven. (we are to forgive a person that often)
- What’s The Motive
For Forgiveness Of Others.
a. We have
forgiveness of others because God has forgiven us
Ephes. 4:32 (NKJV) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
3.
Forgiveness Of Others - Our Duty.
a. In the
forgiveness of others our duty is to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving of
one another
Ephes. 4:24 (NKJV) and that you put on the new man which was created
according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
b. In the
forgiveness of others our duty is to forbear one another and to forgive one
another
Col.
3:13 (NKJV) bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone
has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must
do.
c. In the
forgiveness of others our duty is to forgive all offenses
Mark
11:25 (NKJV) "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against
anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your
trespasses.
d. In the
forgiveness of others our duty is to forgive an unlimited number of times
Matthew 18:21-35 (NKJV) Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often
shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?"
22Jesus said to him, "I do
not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
23Therefore the kingdom of
heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
24And when he had begun to
settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
25But as he was not able to
pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all
that he had, and that payment be made.
26The servant therefore
fell down before him, saying, 'Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you
all.' 27Then the master of
that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
28But that servant went out
and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid
hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'
29So his fellow servant
fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will
pay you all.' 30And he
would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.
31So when his fellow
servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their
master all that had been done. 32Then
his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave
you all that debt because you begged me.
33Should you not also have
had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?'
34And his master was angry,
and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.
35So My heavenly Father
also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother
his trespasses."
Luke
17:3-4 (NKJV) Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you,
rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
4And if he sins against you
seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, 'I
repent,' you shall forgive him."
e. In the
forgiveness of others our duty is to put on a forgiving spirit
Col.
3:12-14 (NKJV) Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put
on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13bearing with one another,
and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as
Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
14But above all these
things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
4.
Forgiveness Of Others – Who Do We Forgive
a.
Forgiveness of others includes a divisive person
2
Cor. 2:5-11 (NKJV) But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me,
but all of you to some extent--not to be too severe.
6This punishment which
was inflicted by the majority is sufficient for such a man,
7so that, on the contrary,
you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a
one be swallowed up with too much sorrow.
8Therefore I urge you to
reaffirm your love to him.
9For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether
you are obedient in all things. 10Now
whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven
anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,
11lest Satan should take
advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.
b.
Forgiveness of others includes All believers
Ephes. 4:32 (NKJV) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
Philemon 1:8-21 (NKJV) Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to
command you what is fitting, 9yet
for love's sake I rather appeal to you--being such a one as Paul, the
aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ--
10I appeal to you for my
son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains,
11who once was unprofitable
to you, but now is profitable to you and to me.
12I am sending him back.
You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,
13whom I wished to keep
with me, that on your behalf he might minister to me in my chains for the
gospel. 14But without your
consent I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion,
as it were, but voluntary. 15For
perhaps he departed for a while for this purpose, that you might receive
him forever, 16no longer as
a slave but more than a slave--a beloved brother, especially to me but how much
more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
17If then you count me as a
partner, receive him as you would me.
18But if he has wronged you
or owes anything, put that on my account.
19I, Paul, am writing with
my own hand. I will repay--not to mention to you that you owe me even your own
self besides. 20Yes,
brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord.
21Having confidence in your
obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.
c.
Forgiveness of others includes those who fail us and forsake us
2
Tim. 4:16 (NKJV) At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook
me. May it not be charged against them.
d.
Forgiveness of others includes those who offend us
Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV) For if you forgive men their trespasses, your
heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15But if you do not forgive
men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Ephes.
4:32 (NKJV) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
e.
Forgiveness of others includes those who persecute us
Luke
23:34 (NKJV) Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know
what they do." And they divided His garments and cast lots.
Acts
7:60 (NKJV) Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do
not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
