Holy Spirit 5 Demystified

New Page 1

The Holy Spirit 5 is a mystery to many.  This series of articles on the Holy Spirit answers many of the critical questions about Him.

[NOTE: You will sometimes find a strange number behind the name Holy Spirit in this series of articles. The purpose of the number is to assist the search engines in keeping the articles in order.]

1.  What Is The Work Of The Holy Spirit  In Relation to Scripture.

The Holy Spirit Gave Scripture by speaking through holy men of God

"Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;  Acts 1:16

who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.  1 Peter 1:21,

The Holy Spirit 5 Uses the Word of God as a sword to convict

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

The Holy Spirit 5 Uses the Word of God as a sword to defend against the attacks of evil.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--  Ephes. 6:17;  Ephes. 6:10-18

2.  What Is The Work Of The Holy Spirit In Relation to the Church.

The Holy Spirit 5 Appoints leaders within the church.

Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.  Acts 20:28

The Holy Spirit 5 Appoints ministers and missionaries of the church.

Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."3Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

4So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.  Acts 13:1-4

The Holy Spirit 5 Baptizes us all into one body, into the church.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.    1 Cor. 12:13

The Holy Spirit 5 Comforts the church.

Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.   Acts 9:31

The Holy Spirit 5 Indwells the church.

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?  1 Cor. 3:16

in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.  Ephes. 2:22

that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,    Ephes. 3:16

The Holy Spirit 5 Sends forth and directs the ministers and missionaries of the church.

Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near and overtake this chariot."   Acts 8:29

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.  Acts 13:4

The Holy Spirit 5 Stirs fellowship within the church.

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,    Phil. 2:1

3.  What Is The Work Of The Holy Spirit In Relation to the World.

The Holy Spirit 5 Causes a person to be born again.

Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.   John 3:5-6

The Holy Spirit 5 Convicts and quickens the gospel to the hearts of men.

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.45It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.46Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.  John 6:44-46

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:9of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;11of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.    John 16:8-11

The Holy Spirit 5 Restrains evil.

Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. 7But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.8So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.   1 Thes. 2:6-8
