Scriptures on Sex and Marriage f
Scriptures on Sex and Marriage from the Word of
God.
Genesis 2:18 (NIV)
18 The LORD God said, "It is not
good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
Genesis 2:24 (NIV)
24 For this reason a man will leave
his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
Proverbs 5:18-20 (NIV)
18 May your fountain be blessed, and
may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19 A loving doe, a graceful deer--
may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.
20 Why be captivated, my son, by an
adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife?
1 Corinthians 7:3 (NIV)
3 The husband should fulfill his
marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.
Scriptures on Sex and Marriage
1 Corinthians 7:4 (NIV)
4 The wife's body does not belong to
her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not
belong to him alone but also to his wife.
1 Corinthians 7:5 (NIV)
5 Do not deprive each other except
by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer.
Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack
of self-control.
Ephesians 5:18 (NIV)
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which
leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
Ephesians 5:23 (NIV)
23 For the husband is the head of
the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the
Savior.
Scriptures on Sex and Marriage
Ephesians 5:25-33 (NIV)
25 Husbands, love your wives, just
as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 to make her holy, cleansing her
by the washing with water through the word,
27 and to present her to himself as
a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and
blameless.
28 In this same way, husbands ought
to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 After all, no one ever hated his
own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--
30 for we are members of his body.
31 "For this reason a man will leave
his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one
flesh."
32 This is a profound mystery--but I
am talking about Christ and the church.
33 However, each one of you also
must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Scriptures on Sex and Marriage
Colossians 3:19 (NIV)
19 Husbands, love your wives and do
not be harsh with them.
1 Thessalonians 4:1-7 (NIV)
1 Finally, brothers, we instructed
you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask
you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
2 For you know what instructions we
gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 It is God's will that you should
be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should learn to
control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
5 not in passionate lust like the
heathen, who do not know God;
6 and that in this matter no one
should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for
all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.
7 For God did not call us to be
impure, but to live a holy life.
Hebrews 13:4 (NIV)
4 Marriage should be honored by all,
and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the
sexually immoral.
Scriptures on Sex and Marriage
1 Peter 3:1-9 (NIV)
1 Wives, in the same way be
submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word,
they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,
2 when they see the purity and
reverence of your lives.
3 Your beauty should not come from
outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine
clothes.
4 Instead, it should be that of your
inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great
worth in God's sight.
5 For this is the way the holy women
of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They
were submissive to their own husbands,
6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and
called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not
give way to fear.
7 Husbands, in the same way be
considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the
weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that
nothing will hinder your prayers.
8 Finally, all of you, live in
harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and
humble.
9 Do not repay evil with evil or
insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that
you may inherit a blessing.
