his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has
suffered in his body is done with sin.
2 As a result, he does not live the
rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
1 Peter 4:12-17 (NIV)
12 Dear friends, do not be surprised
at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were
happening to you.
13 But rejoice that you participate
in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is
revealed.
14 If you are insulted because of the
name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on
you.
15 If you suffer, it should not be as
a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
16 However, if you suffer as a
Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
17 For it is time for judgment to
begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be
for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

17 The righteous cry out, and the
LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The LORD is close to the
brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19 A righteous man may have many
troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;
Hebrews 12:6-8 (NIV)
6 because the Lord disciplines those
he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God
is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?
8 If you are not disciplined (and
everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true
sons.

Hebrews 12:11-13 (NIV)
11 No discipline seems pleasant at
the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness
and peace for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble
arms and weak knees.
13 "Make level paths for your feet,"
so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-10 (NIV)
8 We are hard pressed on every side,
but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
9 persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed.
10 We always carry around in our body
the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

17 For our light and momentary
troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is
seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen
is eternal.
